Discover Val Thorens

Lovers of the mountains and wide open spaces will enjoy (re) discovering Val Thorens: a resort in the Tarentaise valley in the heart of the Savoie Alps. Here is our comprehensive guide to everything you need to know about Val Thorens.

Val Thorens, a Jewel in the Alps

Created 50 years ago, Val Thorens is a purpose-built resort surrounded by glaciers and majestic peaks with exceptional snow on the predominately north-facing terrain. In just a few decades, it has become the eighth most popular ski resort in the world, attracting french and international clientele thanks to spectacular nature right on the doorstep and guaranteed snow cover.

Did you know ? At an altitude of 2,300 metres, Val Thorens is Europe's highest ski resort.

A Unique State of Mind

Val Thorens has something to offer everyone, no matter what your age or taste. Come and enjoy the diversity of this resort where you will feel truly alive.

A Semi-Pedestrianised Resort

A stay in Val Thorens is a time to let go and enjoy yourself. The semi-pedestrianised resort centre has a hip and lively atmosphere with plenty of shops and bars on the snow front. However, the resort is also ideal for families and, as a holder of the "Family Plus Mountain" label, offers a personalised welcome for families in an environment where children can enjoy the snow and learn to ski in safety.

With Friends or with a Partner

Val Thorens has a well-deserved reputation for its lively après-ski and nightlife. With a wide range of activities and accommodation on offer, this friendly resort has something for everyone.

The ski area

Val Thorens is part of the 3 Valleys ski area, with 600 kilometres of marked runs. Here, you can enjoy almost limitless high altitude skiing against a dramatic mountain backdrop dominated by six glaciers. Thanks to its altitude, the area enjoys excellent snow conditions throughout the winter, and this is a great place for late season skiing on good quality snow.

Skiing in Val Thorens is very convenient, with ski lifts easily accessible from the village. The lift system is state-of-the-art, with efficient high-speed chairlifts and gondolas.

Did you know ? In the summer, the lift system is open for lovers of mountain biking and high altitude hiking.

Après-Ski

The holiday fun continues away from the pistes. A range of fun activities are on offer, including ice skating, ice driving, or even dog sledding. In summer, Val Thorens continues to attract lovers of adventurous mountain pursuits such as paragliding and high altitude hiking.

For those who enjoy fine food and drink, there are no less than forty bars and sixty restaurants in Val Thorens, with a range of atmospheres from relaxed and friendly to trendy and party-loving.

Did you know ? Val Thorens hosts frequent events ranging from large-scale concerts to more off-the-wall happenings such as Mongolian yurt evenings, and many others.
