Skiing in La Rosière, a Unique Cultural Mix

The Ski Area

The Haute Tarentaise resort of La Rosière is situated on a mountain plateau with breathtaking views and abundant sunshine throughout the winter season. La Rosière's lift system is linked with  that of the Italian resort of La Thuile to form the San Bernardo ski area, and the Italian influence manifests itself in the resort's relaxed, easy-going lifestyle.

The San Bernardo is the only French-Italian ski area in the northern Alps. The two cultures mingle to create a unique atmosphere on the slopes, and whether you fancy an Italian pizza or a Reblochon cheese dish, you are sure to find what you are looking for.

The San Bernardo ski area has 154 kilometers of marked rubs. Here is a breakdown of the eighty-two pistes:

  • 14 black
  • 35 red
  • 25 blue
  • 8 green

The area has something to offer skiers of all levels, from wide, open pistes to more technical descents.

Snow Conditions

Just a few kilometres as the crow flies from the Petit Saint-Bernard pass and Mont Blanc, La Rosière has a favourable climate and abundant snow cover.

Situated at an altitude of 1,850 metres, which is relatively high for a mid-mountain resort, La Rosière is widely recognised for its excellent snow cover from mid-December to the end of April. At an altitude of 2,800 metres, Mont Valaisan is the highest point of the ski area.

The Lift System

San Bernardo's Lift System Comprises:

  • 1 gondola lift
  • 6 high-speed six-person chairlifts
  • 6 high-speed four-person chairlifts
  • 4 four-person chairlifts
  • 4 three-person chairlifts
  • 17 drag lifts, rope tows and magic carpets

La Rosière has an ongoing programme of improvements to its lift system which can transport skiers up the mountain efficiently and comfortably. The highest in the ski area is reached via the Mont Valaisan and Les Moulins chairlifts.

La Rosière and the San Bernardo ski area stand out for their diversity and the harmonious blending of two cultures. The sunny climate and good snow cover make this an ideal destination for ski lovers.
